Overview
The Telecom Technician Apprentice III is an entry‑level apprenticeship designed to provide practical experience in the telecommunications field. The apprentice will assist with installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and inspection of telecom equipment, systems, and infrastructure under the supervision of experienced technicians, gaining knowledge of telecommunications technologies and emerging solutions.
Responsibilities- Assist with entry‑level installation, acceptance testing, and documentation of telecom equipment and systems.
- Assist with entry‑level troubleshooting and system testing, maintenance, and repair of electronic and optical equipment, infrastructure, and systems.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, drawings, and other data required for all work performed.
- Maintain inventory of telecom supplies and parts.
- Inspect and maintain test equipment, tools, automotive equipment, and safety‑protective equipment in good working order.
- Read, understand, and update electronic and electrical prints, diagrams, and asset records related to telecom equipment and technologies.
- Operate tools and equipment necessary to perform job duties.
- Assist others as requested or assigned.
- Perform duties in accordance with company safety rules, NERC CIP, and environmental compliance.
- Respond to emergency callouts as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Successfully complete all assigned training.
- Develop a working knowledge of entry‑level technical support skills in transmission and distribution data networks, SCADA, distribution automation, smart grids, fiber optics, RF antenna systems, AC/DC power systems, cabling, networking, support equipment, and specialized support centers.
- High school diploma or GED (minimum educational requirement).
- Prefer associate degree in electrical engineering technology, electronic technology, or related field; or equivalent two‑year technical degree; or military training/experience in related technology.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and aptitude to learn entry‑level technical support skills.
- Willingness to complete required training and obtain certifications as directed.
Approximate starting wage: $30.95 per hour. Compensation grade: N004‑985. Compensation range: $32.03 to $39.39 per hour.
Physical DemandPhysical demand level: M – Medium Work. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
