Data Center Cable Technician (Entry-Level)
Location:
Fort Wayne, Indiana. Job Type: Full‑Time Contract (6‑month engagement with potential for extension or permanent hire). Pay: $20–22 per hour plus benefits.
TEKsystems seeks motivated and reliable Telecommunications Technicians to support a large‑scale, fast‑paced infrastructure project in Fort Wayne. This hands‑on, field‑based role offers consistent hours (50‑hour work weeks) and a clear path toward long‑term employment with a leading technology workforce provider.
Schedule & Work Environment- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (50 hours/week required) - Work Type:
On‑site / Field‑based
- Installing and routing low‑voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic as applicable)
- Performing rack and stack of network equipment (routers, switches, patch panels)
- Supporting telecommunications system installations and upgrades
- Troubleshooting connectivity and performance issues
- Testing and verifying cable installations to industry standards
- Assisting with device configuration and system setup (VoIP, PBX, etc.)
- Maintaining clean and organized job sites and documentation
- Following all safety protocols and best practices
- Must‑Have Skills & Traits
- Strong interest in telecommunications, low‑voltage, or IT infrastructure
- Basic knowledge of cabling, networking equipment, or electronics
- Ability to use hand tools and work in a physical, hands‑on environment
- Reliable transportation and strong punctuality
- Solid work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in telecom, construction, or low‑voltage installation
- Familiarity with cable installation and termination, network hardware (routers, switches), VoIP or PBX systems
- Technical certifications (nice to have, not required)
