Construction Laborer-Utility Person | Field Operations
Schedule 7:30a.m. – 3:30p.m.
Hands-on, dependable, and team-oriented-someone who takes pride in physical work and keeping the city running safely and smoothly.
What You'll DoYou’ll support the City’s water, sewer, and stormwater operations by performing hands-on construction, maintenance, and equipment work that keeps Fort Wayne's infrastructure operating every day.
Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy trucks, front-end loaders, and related equipment for utility operations
- Install, repair, and maintain water and sewer infrastructure such as hydrants, mains, valves, and laterals
- Perform construction and repair work using hand and power tools, concrete, mortar, and asphalt
- Complete inspections, pre-trip vehicle checks, and routine equipment maintenance
- Work closely with City crews, assist with training, and follow all safety requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in construction, utilities, or outdoor labor preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
- CDL Class A (or willingness to obtain; learner's permit required)
- Certified Competent Person:
Excavation & Trench - Confined Space Certification
- Basic math, technical, and communication skills
- Ability to safely use tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow procedures
