Construction Laborer-Utility Person | Field Operations

Hands-on, dependable, and team-oriented-someone who takes pride in physical work and keeping the city running safely and smoothly.

What You'll Do

You'll support the City's water, sewer, and stormwater operations by performing hands-on construction, maintenance, and equipment work that keeps Fort Wayne's infrastructure operating every day.

Key Responsibilities

* Operate heavy trucks, front-end loaders, and related equipment for utility operations

* Install, repair, and maintain water and sewer infrastructure such as hydrants, mains, valves, and laterals

* Perform construction and repair work using hand and power tools, concrete, mortar, and asphalt

* Complete inspections, pre-trip vehicle checks, and routine equipment maintenance

* Work closely with City crews, assist with training, and follow all safety requirements

What You Bring - Education & Experience

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Experience in construction, utilities, or outdoor labor preferred

* Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions

Preferred Certifications

* CDL Class A (or willingness to obtain; learner's permit required)

* Certified Competent Person:
Excavation & Trench

* Confined Space Certification

Technical Skills & Knowledge

* Basic math, technical, and communication skills

* Ability to safely use tools, equipment, and vehicles

* Strong safety awareness and ability to follow procedures
