Position: Special Events Coordinator – Riverfront (Seasonal)

Special Events Coordinator – Riverfront

Schedule:

20–30 hours/week | Flexible, includes evenings, weekends, and holidays

Hands-on. River-ready. Community-focused. If you love coordinating events, leading programs, and guiding people on the water, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Support and coordinate programs, events, and boating activities along Fort Wayne's Riverfront. You’ll help plan, set up, and lead programs, assist with boat operations, and ensure a safe and engaging experience for participants of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, set up, and lead events and programs, including walking tours, field trips, and on-water activities
  • Assist with boating operations, including boat prep, passenger instruction, and safety supervision
  • Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise volunteers and instructors as needed
  • Maintain inventory, prepare reports, collect fees, and manage program resources
  • Engage participants with professional, informative, and enthusiastic guidance
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assist with supervising instructors and volunteers during programs and events
What You Bring – Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Some experience in event coordination, recreation, or boating programs preferred
  • Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Certifications
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Indiana DNR Safe Boating Education Certification
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (American Heart Association, within two weeks of hire)
Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Proficient in kayaking, canoeing, or other non-powered boats
  • Experience operating motorized boats safely
  • Familiarity with Riverfront Fort Wayne programs, ecology, and local history
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
