Title: Crew Member – Litter & Debris Operations

Company: Interstate Business Solutions, LLC

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana

Type of Employment: Regular Full-Time Non-Exempt

Travel (Overnight): Regional travel required; limited overnight as needed

Schedule: Monday–Friday with occasional weekend work, emergency response needs, or schedule modifications based on contract requirements or weather events

Compensation: Starting at $13.00 to $16.00 hourly (based on experience)

Position Overview

A crew member collects litter along roadways and cleans up homeless encampments. Crew Members begin the workday by meeting their supervisor and team at a designated location. Crews are transported by company vehicle to assigned work areas. Litter pickup includes shoulders and medians of the highway but excludes travel lanes. The days are Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.

Job Duties
  • Collect and bag litter along assigned interstates and other roadways.
  • Load and unload trash bags at designated locations.
  • Setting up, moving and picking up highway awareness signs throughout the work day.
  • Ensure equipment safety before, during, and after use.
  • Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.
  • Ability to be self-controlled and exercise good judgement.
  • Must wear proper clothing including protective equipment.
  • Communicate with field supervisor any hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Must obey all safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job cooperating with others, offering help to others when needed, and considering large organizational goals rather than individual concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation to meet at assigned location as early as 6:00am.
  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to use a grabber-type litter collection device.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in outdoor public works, highway maintenance, or right-of-way services.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to operate a variety of small hand tools, two‑way radio, phone and other items needed for the job.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds; will regularly be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and will frequently be required to talk or hear. Special vision requirements are close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to walk for extended periods of time over rough, steep or uneven terrain in all weather conditions.

Work Environment

Work is performed outdoors along highways, shoulders, medians, and rights-of-way. Crew Members are regularly exposed to traffic, loud noise, weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and physically demanding terrain. This position requires consistent field presence and active physical labor.
