Description
The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of Muckleroy & Falls and its affiliated companies. This position is responsible for payroll accounting, cost allocation, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and sales tax recovery activities that help ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial records.
Working closely with the Accounting Manager and Project Accountants, the Staff Accountant helps maintain efficient accounting processes, supports project cost tracking, and contributes to timely and accurate financial reporting across multiple construction projects
What You'll Do
As a Staff Accountant, you'll support a variety of accounting functions across the organization:
- Prepare and record weekly payroll journal entries, including labor burden and fringe allocations
- Process weekly payroll and verify payroll reports for accuracy and compliance
- Reconcile payroll liability accounts and support certified payroll requirements
- Allocate direct and indirect job costs across multiple construction projects and entities
- Support Project Accountants with project cost tracking and reporting
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for company accounts
- Review and post cash receipts, deposits, and credit card transactions
- Maintain the general ledger by ensuring entries are accurate and properly supported
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare schedules and reports for management review and external audits
- Support annual audit activities and internal compliance initiatives
- Review vendor invoices to identify eligible sales tax recovery opportunities
- Coordinate with vendors and tax authorities to resolve discrepancies and recover overpaid sales tax
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within accounting processes and reporting systems

Work Schedule & Conditions
- Standard schedule:
Monday-Friday 8AM - 5PM (with flexibility as needed). - Some overtime or weekend work may be required.
- Travel to project sites across Texas may be required.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Experience with ERP systems like Vista, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Understanding of construction-specific cost allocation principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
