Position Summary

The Lead Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process, including categorizing, recording, analyzing, and monitoring costs and billings associated with large and smaller construction projects. The role ensures vendor compliance to manage project risk and supervises a team of project accountants, working closely with Project Managers to assure timely and accurate accounting and risk management throughout the project life cycle.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions.
  • Assist the Manager in overseeing and monitoring daily operations of assigned areas to maintain the accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and internal controls.
  • Monitor financials, coordinate collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data, and prepare standard and special reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices, current and proposed legislation, and regulations; recommend changes to accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Work with the accounting manager on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
  • Lead departmental projects, including the change/implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Review and complete analysis of complex accounting issues.
  • Provide coaching and training to, and supervise, less experienced Project Accountants.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Advanced accounting knowledge.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate across all levels.
  • Analytical, innovative, and decisive; able to analyze and resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert-level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. required.
  • Process orientation with a focus on quality and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
