This position is an entry level position that works directly with a Senior Estimator or Estimator on a bid. An Entry Level Estimator is responsible for surveying quantities of building specialties, doors and windows, and miscellaneous finishes. This position will teach the basics of estimating procedures and software, basic understanding of construction and good plan reading skills. Entry Level Estimators report to the Senior Estimator assigned as “Job Captain” (Lead Estimator) of their project.

Duties
  • Process Management
    Establishes and maintains relationships with major subcontractors
  • Personnel Management
    Processes all R.F.I.s for estimating and job addendums.
  • Preconstruction Responsibilities
    Archives past bids in a Thos. S. Byrne bid binder.
  • Technical Duties
    Maintains subcontractor database
  • Orders all drawings and specifications and distribute to plan room and subcontractors.
  • Perform additional assignments as per Senior Vice President Estimating direction.
  • Preparation of subcontractor solicitations inquiries and telephone solicitation of bids as required.
  • Provide technical support to estimators preparing specific discipline estimates for assigned bids.
  • Updates subcontractor bid information in subcontractor database post bid.
Qualifications

Must have the aptitude to learn the estimating systems including accurate quantity takeoff, dialogue with subcontractors/vendors, correctly analyze scope, inclusions and exclusions for bid day quotes and have a full understanding of the subcontracting market. Must be able assist in purchasing “hard bid” projects, think logically, use reason and good judgment; communicate well orally and in writing; use mathematics quickly and accurately to figure costs;

have a thorough working knowledge of basic computer software and estimating specific software. This individual must be able to assess information using personal judgment; perform work accurately; utilize and develop measurable historical data.
