Construction Safety Director

The Construction Safety Director will oversee the safety program of their division of the company, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable in modern safety practices, and skilled at influencing and training others to foster a culture of safety. This role is critical to minimizing workplace risk, managing incidents effectively, and maintaining thorough documentation.

Key responsibilities include overseeing and managing the Safety Department, conducting site inspections, safety reviews, and risk assessments, completing and maintaining daily safety and incident reports, delivering new hire safety orientations and facilitating 10-hour OSHA training sessions, leading investigations and documentation for all workplace injuries, accidents, and near-misses, supporting injured employees, collaborating with medical professionals, providing coaching and corrective action for safety violations, developing, implementing, and updating site-specific safety plans and hazard analyses, preparing and maintaining MSDS/SDS and other safety documentation, supporting Foremen and project teams with Job Hazard Analyses and other safety-related documents, reporting division safety metrics, trends, and updates, regularly inspecting equipment for compliance and serviceability, organizing and facilitating random drug testing, administering safety award programs, monitoring subcontractor safety programs, acting as mediator for safety-related disputes or concerns, assisting preconstruction teams with safety reviews, collaborating closely with operations staff to ensure clear and continuous communication regarding safety matters, and representing the company at industry functions, events, and professional associations.

Required skills and competencies include an excellent understanding of federal, state, and local construction safety laws and OSHA compliance, proven leadership in developing and managing safety programs for large construction projects, exceptional communication, training, and analytical skills, ability to conduct investigations, collect and analyze incident data, and implement corrective action plans, proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents, legal regulations, and construction drawings, ability to create and deliver effective presentations and training for diverse audiences, strong conflict resolution, coaching, and people management abilities, solid decision-making, problem solving, and organizational skills, and a high degree of integrity and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Qualifications include 10+ years of relevant experience in construction safety management, OSHA 500 Trainer Status or other advanced safety certifications, bi-lingual in English and Spanish, and experience with safety technology platforms.
