Technical Director
In collaboration with administration and fine arts faculty, design and execute all technical requirements for District productions with an eye toward safety and high quality. Create a positive learning environment in which to instruct students in all aspects of technical theatre and performing arts, and supervise students and volunteers for productions.
Essential Job Functions:
- Create a positive, safe working environment, and be a role model and mentor for students
- Design or supervise all technical elements for productions
- Develop appropriate budgets and plans for large and small scale productions and exhibitions
- Supervise and schedule students for technical crew positions and stage-management
- Work within the vision of the organization to produce a finished and budget-appropriate production before deadlines
- Supervise, coordinate, and assign students in construction and maintenance of production elements
- Support fine and performing arts projects or events, on and off campus during the school day, after school, and on weekends
- Maintain equipment and performance facilities
- Attend and give reports during staff, production, and post-production meetings
- Provide technical expertise and support for outside organizations during facility rentals
- Others as assigned
Essential
Job Requirements:
- Education – college degree with a concentration in Technical Theatre preferred; some college with demonstrated work history may be considered as equivalent
- Experience – ideally a minimum three years technical theatre experience; limited technical theatre experience will be taken into consideration. Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Required Skills and Capabilities – must be able to design and construct props, scenery, sets, lighting, and sound; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team; excellent verbal and written communication; budget planning/management
- Preferred Skills and Capabilities – integration of technical theater classes into productions; current in design and build technologies and software
- Physical Requirements – ability to carry up to 75 lbs.; valid driver license
