We are seeking an experienced Editor, Books - Brazil & Portugal to join a growing Books editorial team. This contractor will play a key role in shaping the digital audiobook experience across Brazil and Portugal, connecting audiences with compelling stories, authors, genres, and recommendations that resonate with local culture and listening habits.
The ideal candidate will take ownership of editorial curation for the Brazilian and Portuguese markets, serving as an all-genre specialist with a strong understanding of what audiences want across a wide range of categories. This role will curate and manage high-priority editorial programs, develop culturally relevant copy, evaluate content recommendations, and build strong relationships with publishing partners.
This is an exciting opportunity to help launch and shape a growing digital books and audio books experience in Latin America while collaborating with regional and global teams.
Role Impact This role will have a direct impact on the growth and development of the audiobook experience in Brazil. The successful candidate will help build and curate the digital storefront, establish a strong editorial voice for the market, and ensure audiences are discovering relevant and compelling content.
The role will also serve as an important connection point between local publishing partners, regional editorial teams, cross-functional stakeholders, and organizational leadership.
Key Priorities During the first 6-12 months, the primary priorities will include:
Supporting the launch of the Brazil audiobook storefront.
Building and refining the editorial strategy and browse experience.
Establishing strong relationships with key Portuguese-language publishing partners.
Developing high-quality editorial programs and recommendations.
Supporting major marketing and promotional campaigns.
Sharing market-specific cultural and editorial insights with regional and global teams.
Responsibilities:
Develop and contribute to editorial strategy for books and audio books across Brazil and Portugal.
Take ownership of the audiobook browse experience for the market, acting as an all-genre specialist with a comprehensive understanding of audience needs across categories.
Curate, support, and manage a focused set of high-priority editorial programs.
Write, edit, review, and tag content for consumer-facing editorial programs as well as internal communications.
Develop and maintain relationships with publishers and other industry partners supporting Portuguese-language content.
Evaluate publisher-submitted titles for editorial opportunities and broader cross-functional initiatives.
Identify opportunities for editorial-led promotions based on cultural trends, audience interests, and market insights.
Collaborate closely with regional and global editorial teams to align on strategy and share cross-market insights.
Use research, cultural intelligence, and quantitative and qualitative data to continually refine editorial recommendations.
Partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to highlight and champion books and audio books.
Contribute to the successful launch and ongoing development of the Brazilian audiobook storefront.
Support major marketing and promotional initiatives, including seasonal and tentpole campaigns.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in editing, content curation, merchandising, or related work within a digital-first platform, publishing company, bookseller, media company, or major retailer.
Professional fluency in Portuguese and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
Strong knowledge of the publishing landscape in Brazil and/or Portugal, with a genuine passion for books and storytelling.
Excellent editorial judgment and an ability to quickly identify relevant authors, series, and titles for different audiences, genres, moods, and occasions.
Experience balancing commercial objectives with thoughtful, diverse, and representative editorial programming.
Comfort using both quantitative and qualitative data to inform editorial decisions and recommendations.
Experience developing recommendations that represent a broad range of cultures, communities, perspectives, and voices.
Strong cultural awareness and an ability to understand the nuances of local audiences and markets.
