Job Description

Job Summary

The goal of a Student Success Specialist and Designated School Official (DSO) is to support Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College students in and out of the classroom through retention, tutoring, workshops, events, student community building, data management, intervention, and supporting the Student Success Office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct support to students in navigating academic, personal, and institutional challenges.
  • Coordinates student enrichment programs and workshops aimed at enhancing student engagement and success, including but not limited to New Student Orientation, workshops, intervention programs, training, tutoring, under oversight of the director.
  • Tracks, gathers, analyzes, and interprets data related to student performance and engagement to inform programmatic decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Aids in the execution of campus retention strategy and playbook (will include making phone calls, sending emails, replying to student texts, campus communication as needed, retention based events, additional support services, etc.)
  • Serves as a liaison between students and various campus services, ensuring a coordinated approach to support and crisis intervention.
  • Maintains and updates orientation materials and manuals to reflect current institutional policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1/F-2 student visa compliance and other visa status’s as necessary.
  • Aids in a continued culture of prayer, student focus, and community building.
  • Demonstrates commitment to personal and professional growth in leadership and ministry effectiveness.
  • Handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and specific to area of responsibility.
Qualifications and Skills
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) is required due to government regulations (required for DSO eligibility).
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, education, human services, social work, psychology, or related field and/or three years of leadership experience or a combination of education and experience is required. A master’s degree completed or doctoral degree in higher education administration, student personnel, student development, or related field in progress is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of student service experience and DSO experience preferred.
  • Successful experience in higher education processes, student services and development, academic advising, or higher education support strategies preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
