Certified Teacher $35.00

Degree/Not certified $25.00

No Degree/90 college hours $22.00

No Degree/60 college hours $19.00

No Degree/30 college hours $16.00

No Degree/less than 30 college hours $13.00

Tutors work up to 14.5 hours per week.

Employment as a tutor does not guarantee a minimum number of work hours.

Tutors are placed according to individual areas of expertise.

Position Purpose

Provides tutoring to students in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at middle and secondary schools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Determines from student notes and discussions the concepts that need to be taught or re-taught.

* Becomes familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Libraries.

* Becomes familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students.

* Completes at a minimum 16 hours of training in Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) and the AVID tutorial process skills; 8 hours prior to beginning work in the AVID classroom, and the remaining hours prior to Spring break of the first year of work.

* Participates in on-going coaching and debriefing in inquiry, and the AVID tutorial process by AVID trained site personnel.

* Implements the goals and objectives of AVID tutorials by using WICOR strategies and the AVID tutorial materials.

* Works collaboratively with groups of AVID students to effectively facilitate INQUIRY-BASED tutorial groups.

* Monitors the tutorial work of assigned tutorial groups of AVID students to ensure their effective participation and growth.

* Sets an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.

* Communicates frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.

* Travels to more than one school (within a designated geographic region of the District) as may be required.

Safety

* Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

* Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
