This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

The Department of Modern Language Studies at Texas Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of French, beginning Fall 2026. We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar who will contribute to a vibrant liberal arts environment through innovative pedagogy, active engagement with students, and collaborative program development. Area of specialization is open but preference will be given to candidates with a focus on the culture and society of France.

The successful candidate will have native or near-native fluency in French, a passion for student engagement inside and outside the classroom, evidence of scholarly potential and a demonstrated commitment to active learning and effective teaching in a liberal arts context. The position carries a 3/2 teaching load with two potential promotions in rank (Associate Professor and Professor) and annual support for research activity.

For full consideration, applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in French/French Studies with a focus on French culture and society by August 1, 2026. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching French language courses at all levels and the ability to offer a range of courses on French culture and society. The successful candidate will also play an active role in strengthening and expanding the French program, including curriculum development and outreach.

Department Details:

The TCU Department of Modern Language Studies is composed of eight full-time faculty members and offers major and minor programs in Chinese, French, German, and Italian. The Department operates an immersive Language House program on campus for each of the language programs as well as a student club for each of the language programs.

Named for TCU's founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the Add Ran College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers' Training Corps (Army and Air Force).

Add Ran College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master's and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
