Who

You Are

We seek an educator with a passion for teaching and working with children, especially those of middle‑school age, who demonstrates enthusiasm for both English and Social Studies, and who places students at the heart of their instructional practice.

This position represents an opportunity to guide seventh graders through one of the most formative intellectual journeys of their lives. In this role, you will teach an integrated American Studies curriculum that weaves together early American history, from Spanish exploration and conquest through the Constitutional Era and early Texas statehood, with the literature, poetry, short stories, and plays that bring these periods to life.

You will help young adolescents grapple with complex and sometimes heavy historical topics in thoughtful, age‑appropriate ways, creating space for them to ask hard questions, sit with ambiguity, and develop nuanced understanding. Through this integration of English Language Arts and Social Studies, you will help students see the connections between literature and history, deepening their understanding of American culture and their own place within it.

You will guide students in crafting and defending academic arguments supported by textual evidence, continuing to develop their grammar and vocabulary skills while fostering analytical and critical thinking. Your classroom will be a place where students learn not just what happened in history, but why it matters and how the stories we tell shape who we become.

Being a teacher here means stepping far beyond the smart board and supervision duties. You serve as an advisor, mentoring a small group of students and serving on the front lines of academic and social‑emotional support. You'll participate on overnight Trojan Outdoor Experience (TOE) trips for your grade level, with the opportunity to get to know students beyond the classroom setting. Faculty stay onsite in tents or cabins, sharing in the same experience as our students.

Your hobbies and interests can become the feature of a special elective Selectives course, inspiring students to join in. Backpacking, Campfire Cooking, and Aviation are fan favorites! Coaching opportunities and sponsoring extracurricular clubs are also a powerful way to invest in our students. You are a steady presence on the sidelines and in auditoriums cheering kids on - your presence and support there contribute to their success in your classroom and beyond.
