Overview
Role Mission: IDEA Principals in Residence (PIRs) are experienced school leaders who aspire to become IDEA principals. PIRs fulfill the same duties as an Assistant Principal of Instruction (API), including managing, coaching, and developing a portfolio of teachers. PIRs also take on additional responsibilities designed to prepare them for the principal role, such as managing another lead team member, leading school wide systems, participating in professional development programs for aspiring principals, and serving as the acting principal when the school principal is not on campus.

This is a campus-based role.
Compensation:
Salaries for this role typically fall between $74,764 to $87,100, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications, and in alignment with internal equity. The role is eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.

IDEA may offer a relocation allowance if applicable.
- Paid Family Leave:
Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child. - Tuition Reimbursement:
Staff may apply for up to 50% of tuition toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 maximum per year, subject to manager discretion and budget availability. - Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health:
Counseling sessions and telephonic support available at no cost.
What You Bring — Competencies
Qualifications- Education:
Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred - Required Experience:
At least 3 years of full-time teaching experience; at least 2 years of school leadership experience; at least 2 years of experience managing and coaching others - Proven track record of success as a teacher and as a manager/coach of teachers
- Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel between campuses and regions; able to move throughout a school building and engage in virtual meetings

- Additional Knowledge and
Skills:
Includes all APIs requirements such as knowledge of core subject, coaching on curriculum and instruction, student behavior management, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and adaptability - Further requirements:
Ability to analyze data, reflect on practice, lead complex systems, regulate emotions, manage multiple priorities, and stay solutions-oriented
- Fulfill API responsibilities: lead instructional staff, supervise curriculum implementation, review lesson plans, analyze data, communicate progress to students and families, build trust with communities, facilitate use of technology for teacher development and student achievement, support behavior management, develop school culture, oversee tutoring, participate in meetings and district PD, spend substantial time on campus, and take on after-hours duties as needed
- Additional PIR responsibilities: manage another lead team member; coach and develop leaders; lead school wide systems; participate in PD for aspiring principals; serve as acting principal when the principal is absent; engage in principal-like moments under mentorship
- Accountability metrics include student pass rates, STAAR/EOC measures, Subgroup growth, student persistence, teacher retention, and attendance targets (numbers reflect typical targets).
- Manage and coach a portfolio of teachers and/or co-teachers
- May manage another lead team member at principal discretion
