Job Title PEER MENTOR SUCCESS COACH (graduate student position) Position Summary

Reporting to the Faculty Supervisor of the Peer Mentoring Studio, this

position facilitates student success and learning through program development, supervision of undergraduate peer mentors, and grant reporting.

This position also builds leadership and mentoring

skills for the graduate student employee. Mentoring involves active and ongoing relationships between mentors and mentees to promote social and academic development.

The peer mentor success coach is a graduate student with a passion for mentoring students holistically, problem-solving academic to non-academic issues that affect academic success.

The peer mentor success coach mentors undergraduate students as they navigate the college environment and achieve their academic and personal goals through study skills,

commitment, persistence, accountability, innovation, and integrity.

The Peer Mentor Success Coach role requires interaction with students inside and

outside of the classroom as well as in the studio for consultations. Administrative duties include office management, program goal writing, social media management, undergraduate training, meeting with the faculty supervisor, and data collection for grant reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Meet with undergraduate employees and assigned students in the Peer

Mentoring Studio

* Meet with faculty supervisor as needed to plan, implement,

and assess engagement strategies.

* Design and host student staff meetings in the PM Studio.

* Disseminate helpful information to staff

and to mentees campus wide and on social media; effectively

communicate strategies that foster academic success in oral

and written communication.

* Serve as a graduate student role model who takes pride in Texas

Wesleyan University and the Ramily; maintain knowledge of

campus resources and campus events in order to encourage

student attendance at events around campus.

* Attend training sessions with faculty supervisor and

professional development activities related to mentoring and

student success.

* Facilitate socio-academic experiences and walk-in support

sessions.

* Assist students in interacting with faculty members and with

other audiences to foster college life-skill building.

* Complete and submit workshop plans, voiceover

presentations, and documents to be used with students in the

PM (Peer Mentoring) Studio

* Confer with faculty supervisor regarding necessary peer

mentoring interventions and outreach.

* Attend and participate in all training and staff meetings as

required.

* Attend the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and

follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the

worksite, adhering to the advanced notice policy for absences

from work.

* Develop outreach materials and correspondence with faculty

and staff to increase student retention efforts

* Deliver presentations promoting peer mentoring in classes to

raise awareness of available support.

* Practice growing skills in writing goal-oriented action plans for

student benefit and progress checks.

* Create web content, social media posts, data entry, and

documentation in spreadsheets for records of student

contact. Proficiency in using the Microsoft Suite, presentation

tools, and virtual meeting interfaces such as Teams and Zoom.

* Collecting data for grant reporting,

as well as attendance data for all peer mentoring

consultations, including student names, course title, date, and

time of session.

* Be accepted to or enrolled in a graduate program,

preferably one that relates to student mentoring,

mental health, student success, psychology, sociology,

education, communication or related field;

have a graduate course schedule

that permits staffing hours for campus

and student needs; ability to work during student-access-to
- campus days; takes initiative in an active and visible role as a

student leader on campus.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

* Current enrollment as a graduate student

(or evidence of acceptance and upcoming enrollment);

* Bachelor's Degree with educational experiences related

to mentoring; faculty recommendation for social and

communication skills and capacity to mentor students with

compassion and ethics; additional subject matter expertise in

an academic major preferred

Experience

* Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or assisting others;

community service and/or service learning experiences.

* Experience developing problem-solving improvement plans preferred.

* Skill in guiding students within the Canvas Course

Management System and other online interfaces.

* Experience documenting details through note-taking and/or record-keeping.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Ability to work independently when necessary and

collaboratively with colleagues and faculty supervisor to

develop a welcoming studio environment.

* Confidentiality and discretion regarding student challenges.
