Under the direction of the Director of Visual & Performing Arts, the Coordinator of Instrumental Music is responsible for assisting in the planning, assessment, implementation, curriculum and the coordination of the district’s Instrumental Music Programs and related initiatives Supports campuses, Teachers, Principals, and District Service Center staff in implementing a coherent PK-12 strategy to support all learners with a focus on Fine Arts.
Ensures that the Curriculum and Instruction practices are designed to close achievement and opportunity gaps throughout the District. Ensures appropriate support is provided to campuses through department personnel.
- Designs curriculum, assessments, and supporting instructional materials to ensure student mastery of learning objectives and measurable improvement of academic outcomes.
- Provides technical assistance, staff development, and curriculum support for all district fine arts programs and initiatives as determined by the director.
- Coordinates activities, supervises instruction, administers budget, and designs the curriculum of the music, theater arts, art, and non-athletic UIL programs
- Coordinates fine art programs K-12 and assists with other areas of fine arts, as assigned.
- Provides support to the Director of Visual & Performing Arts in the development and implementation of district level fine arts activities.
- Provides support for the design, support, and implementation of quality professional development programs in the fine arts.
- Disseminates current research on best practices in the fine arts.
- Assist and coordinate the logistical and financial aspects of contests and competitions.
- Assist the Director of Visual & Performing Arts in planning and providing professional development, workshops, clinics, and staff meetings to improve instruction.
- Assists in the coordination and evaluation of fine arts textbooks and related materials submitted for adoption.
- Works collaboratively with Curriculum and Instruction and School Leadership to provide program support to schools and evaluate program offerings while supporting department expectations.
- Assists campus personnel on safety protocol and maintenance of Fine Arts equipment.
- Assist campus principals with recruitment and selection of personnel.
- Attends Fine Arts teacher meetings, relative performances and school board meetings, as assigned.
- In collaboration with the Director of Visual & Performing Arts, maintain a schedule of regular Fine Arts classroom visits K-12 for teachers new to the district and teachers needing instructional support.
- In collaboration with the Director of Visual & Performing Arts, serve as the district contact on all matters related to Fine Arts.
- Analyzes current program quality, implementation, and practices, keeping district staff well informed and making responsible recommendations for adjustments as needed.
- Coordinates departmental district services to campuses.
- Provides guidance, resources, and organizational structure to ensure success of the fine arts initiatives.
- Supports and monitors instrumental music instruction including band, orchestra, mariachi, jazz ensemble, percussion, and chamber music programs.
- Provides instructional coaching and program evaluation to campus instrumental music directors and administrators.
- Reviews enrollment, retention, performance outcomes, festival participation, and student achievement data to strengthen instrumental music programs.

- Articulates the fine arts strategies and objectives to internal and external stakeholders to solicit its support in realizing the mission for internal and/or external audiences.
