Lower School Counselor

Fort Worth Country Day is seeking a highly qualified individual who will serve as the Lower School Counselor beginning with the  school year. Reporting to the Head of Lower School and the Assistant Head of School for Student Services and Academics, the role of the school counselor is to help create a healthy school environment for students, faculty and staff and to serve the individual social/emotional needs of students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize a set of policies, procedures and activities in collaboration with the Student Services Department that protect and promote the health and well-being of the Fort Worth Country Day community
  • Provide short-term counseling for students (individually and/or in small groups) relative to social, emotional and academic needs
  • Work with teachers, administrators and parents to coordinate behavior and/or academic plans for students who are having difficulties in the classroom or in social situations.
  • Collaborate and consult with members of the Student Support Team, faculty and administrators about students of concern
  • Make appropriate referrals for students, families and faculty to community resources and services
  • Coordinate and/or teach health education and guidance activities to students with a focus on the FWCD Core Values
  • Help orient new students to the school and assist students in the transition to a new grade
  • Consult with external clinicians who are supporting FWCD students
  • Coordinate and/or conduct parent education programs
  • Provide health and wellness opportunities and services to faculty and staff
  • Provide faculty development for teachers

Qualifications/Special Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Licensed mental health professional (counselor, social worker, therapist, or psychologist)
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Have an understanding of the traits and developmental needs of Lower School students.
  • Have experience in preventive work and programming
