Position Purpose

Senior military service instructor to secondary level cadets, responsible for leading, managing, and implementing the overall high school JROTC program according to national, state, and District standards. Leads other assigned instructors in promoting academic achievement, social, patriotic, character education, leadership, and physical growth.

Responsible for managing and implementing the military service’s national education curriculum and program requirements; prepares plans, coordination, and supervision of all co‑curricular service learning, special activities or events (military ball, drill meets, marksmanship matches, honor guards, orienteering, and other extracurricular activities). Promotes school and community service events. Supervises property management, fund‑raising, and budget controls for the unit. Administers the automated cadet record system and reporting for military and District information.

Job Functions
  • Teaches, assesses, evaluates, and documents student progress and growth through formal and informal evaluation procedures; evaluates students’ progress, and determines materials and strategies to provide for their needs.
  • Implements and coordinates the national curriculum, lesson plans, curriculum and extracurricular activities, and objectives with other content areas in order to provide for transfer of learning and knowledge.
  • Develops thematic units and other projects to provide for extended interaction and creativity; instructs 180 hours of military directed subject materials in classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Teaches and promotes Honors U.S. Military History Elective.
  • Establishes necessary supply, budget, and administrative accounts in coordination with Cadet Command regulations.
  • Supervises property management and budget controls for the unit.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Administers the automated cadet record system, and reporting for military and District information.
  • Submits required Cadet Command reports, as necessary, and in accordance with the required report timelines and procedures.
  • Administers, advises, and appraises extracurricular teams (drill, rifle, physical training, academic challenge, cyber patriot/robotics, orienteering, and marksmanship).
  • Determines and administers cadets who serve in key leadership positions (command and staff).
  • Administers, advises, coordinates, and supervises special activities or events such as the annual military ball, drill meets, and the Final Review awards ceremony.
  • Implements and maintains communication and coordination with the school faculty and staff to promote cadet involvement in school activities, cadet recruitment, and retention.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and compiles data for data records in the automated cadet database.
  • Counsels, mentors, and tutors cadets as needed.
Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Leads, coordinates, monitors, and directs the work of Instructors.
  • Supervises and evaluates JROTC Instructor(s) assigned to campus within the JROTC program.
