Intervention Support /ESL Teacher
The Intervention Support /ESL Teacher uses research-based programs to help fill the gaps in foundational Reading and Math skills. Provides direct intervention and targeted support to students who demonstrate educational challenges and supplemental language instruction to Emergent Bilingual (EB) using appropriate learning activities and strategies, with a primary focus on beginner through intermediate language level students. Supports the campus Instructional Leadership Team in the areas of Reading, English Language Arts and Math.
Provides supplemental instruction and diagnostic assessment that enables students to develop competencies and skills for linguistic and academic success.

Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross-functional work groups.

Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other professional staff as it relates to student needs.
Provides students who need academic support with individual and group targeted instruction.
Actively engage EB students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Evaluate, monitor and document student progress in English language acquisition for program placement, recommendation of state assessments for EB students and program continuation.
Evaluate student achievement; help place them in appropriate reading intervention and support services.
Follow state, federal, and local guidelines established for English as Second Language program.
Collaborate with teacher of record and other campus staff to ensure appropriate supplemental services and interventions are provided.
Instruct EB at-risk students in small group and large group settings.
Provides intensive support for teachers and students; discuss data results with students and parents.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Consult District and outside resource individuals regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
Be a positive role model for students.
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Serve as the teacher of record in the assigned content area for EB students at all language proficiency levels as determined by the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC).
Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Maintain confidentiality.
Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
