Teacher – History / Assistant Football Coach (2026‑2027)
Starting Date: August 3, 2026
Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Provide instruction and coaching to help students develop skills and excel in assigned sports. Contribute to overall educational program and to student growth through athletics. Enable students to acquire competencies for successful participation in society.
Responsibilities- Model Keller ISD core beliefs and values, communicate openly across teams, and manage resources to support district goals.
- Guide collaborative efforts to support effective delivery of services.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, emotional development.
- Identify at‑risk students and develop strategies to assist them.
- Monitor attendance; contact parents, counselors for intervention plans.
- Use technology to strengthen teaching/learning.
- Work with school staff to plan and implement instructional goals for student athletes.
- Work with Head Coach on establishing performance criteria, evaluate student athletic abilities, model required performance and movements.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, facilities.
- Schedule competitions; plan season activities including practices, special events, tournaments.
- Coordinate travel arrangements with transportation for out‑of‑town events.
- Supervise athletic activities, contests, practice sessions to promote growth in skills, teamwork, sportsmanship.
- Use varied instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
- Maintain a highly competitive program.
- Ensure compliance with UIL rules.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Accompany and supervise student athletes during competitions at home and out‑of‑town.
- Instruct and advise on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements and recruiting practices.
- Conduct conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers; maintain supportive, courteous, respectful interactions.
- Implement discipline‑management procedures; enforce student discipline during contests, practice, off‑school trips in accordance with student code.
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct through instruction.
- Assist in selection, cleaning, repair, storage, inventory of athletic equipment.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with parents, students, district personnel.
- Continually learn and build personal and professional capacity.
- Maintain supportive, positive, courteous, respectful, professional attitude toward responsibilities.
- Represent Keller ISD and district administration at public venues; maintain professional appearance, manner, work habit.
- Implement systems to enhance work environment per core documents.
- Maintain information retrieval systems, secure reports, records, documents.
- Pursue professional development and ensure alignment with district goals and current research.
- Comply with all policies, procedures, legal requirements, directives.
- Comply with professional code of ethics and standard practices for Texas educators.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assign and oversee completion of work of student athletic assistants.
- Knowledge of positive and effective delivery of coaching techniques.
- Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
- Ability to be patient, flexible, and versatile.
- Basic technology competencies.
Education / Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in assigned area.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language – Required for all Core Subject Teachers.
- Current First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certificate.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred and will be required for contract renewal.
Experience:
- Coaching experience preferred.
- Ability to develop, implement, and maintain a highly competitive program.
