Primary Purpose

Assist the school principal in the overall administration of classroom and student management as well as campus-level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Special Education certification or background
  • Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS)
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Thorough understanding of school operations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate campus support operations
  • Expertise in classroom and student management
Experience

Three years of experience as a classroom teacher.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Management
  • Supervise the development and evaluation of special education and ESL departments.
  • Primarily responsible for conducting ARDs and administering LPAC meetings.
  • Monitor the progress of all special education and ESL students and develop interventions when appropriate.
  • Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Promote the use of technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • Coordinate and supervise the implementation of Student Success Initiative services for the campus.
  • Coordinate after‑school intervention programs.
  • Coordinate school‑wide planning and improvement processes (SBDM, Department Meetings).
  • Manage curriculum services and initiatives such as PLATO, I‑station and Think Through Math.
  • Assist the principal in designing and maintaining a systemic staff development program with ongoing support for classroom teachers based on professional development initiatives.
  • Readily provide assistance to teachers and the principal in curriculum and instruction.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment toward improving education for students.
  • Carry out assigned responsibilities in a professional manner.
  • Share responsibility for community relations.
  • Enforce school policies in a fair and consistent manner.
School/Organizational Climate
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Interact sensitively and fairly with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Co‑manage the front office with an additional assistant principal.
School/Organizational Improvement
  • Participate in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Help the principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to monitor records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
Personnel Management
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct regular walk‑throughs and evaluation conferences.
  • Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
  • Assist the supervision of operations in the principal's absence.
  • Serve as the administrator for extra‑curricular events as assigned.
  • Assist in planning daily school activities, including the development of class schedules and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Work with math and special education department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety‑drill practice activities.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.
Student Management
  • Provide student services for all students in 504, ESL, Special Ed., including discipline, parent‑teacher conferences, third‑party hearings, and ARD/504.
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non‑instructional periods.
  • Coordinate the development of a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments such as special education training.
School/Community Relations
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing that mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school‑community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
Other
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
  • Be punctual in all areas.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Be a positive role model for all students.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional district‑wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
