Position: Information Technology Instructor I (Multisite)

OVERVIEW

The Information Technology Instructor will report to the Lead I.T. Instructor in a high‑expectation, high‑support environment. The role emphasizes student‑driven, project‑based learning, professional behavior, and coaching for urban youth. The instructor is a key member of the academic team, may take on additional projects, and supports students’ transition to corporate internships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Instruct approximately 50 Information Technology students daily, using curriculum aligned to current A+ competencies including Excel, computer application, hardware, and networking.
  • Lead and facilitate student‑driven, project‑based learning experiences that promote critical thinking and collaborative problem‑solving.
  • Provide guidance for self‑directed learning and offer one‑on‑one support to students outside of class.
  • Manage the classroom following the Year Up United contract and behavior modification model.
  • Collaborate with other instructors to refine and document the Information Technology curriculum.
  • Identify key competencies to meet academic requirements and industry‑workplace needs.
  • Develop and hone assessment tools to measure student learning and growth; use these tools to monitor and evaluate program performance.
  • Ensure students’ communication and professional skills meet internship and university partner needs.
  • Participate in curriculum planning meetings, weekly academic team meetings, and professional development workshops.
  • Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students and facilitate weekly group sessions.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or a non‑technical degree plus industry certification such as A+, MCSE).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years of educator experience; additional experience in industry or corporate training a plus.
  • 1+ year teaching or working with urban youth preferred.
  • Interest in progressive methodologies and hands‑on, interactive learning.
  • Project management experience with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization, time‑management, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Technical literacy in hardware, networking, and operating systems aligned to CompTIA A+ competencies.
  • Experience with lab environments or technical troubleshooting.
  • Curriculum, syllabus development, lesson planning, and student assessment experience.
  • Experience with eLearning, computer‑enhanced teaching, and blended learning preferred.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems; experience with Bright Space preferred.
  • Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.
  • Passion for working with urban young adults and commitment to the mission of Year Up United.

WORKING LOCATION & ARRANGEMENTS

Starting January 5, 2026, employees are expected to work on‑site at least two days per week (Monday through Thursday depending on job requirements). Candidates must live in a state where Year Up United operates:
Connecticut, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Virginia (approved proximate states).

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Salary range: $55,000 – $67,000.
  • Comprehensive healthcare and dental coverage.
  • 401(k) match for eligible participants.
  • Three weeks paid vacation in first year; four weeks after initial year.
  • Exempt role paid on a salaried basis.
