PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Provide tutoring for assigned individuals or small groups on a regular basis. AVID tutorials are mainly scheduled during the school day with flexible hours to include some before and after school tutoring sessions. Students will be assigned to the tutor by the AVID Elective teacher. Part-Time work schedule will not exceed twenty (20) hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check

Special Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Health and physical qualifications appropriate for the demands of the position.
  • Possess excellent communication skills to include ability to work well with teenagers, and adults.
  • Demonstrate competence to the interviewer of skill in the core content areas math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading
  • Ability to be prompt and have reliable attendance on scheduled days
  • Excellent presentation skills, organization skills, and basic technology skills

Experience:

  • Twelve (12) semester hours of college preferred or currently enrolled in a college program

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Attend training to include AVID Tutorology in the surrounding area or specific JISD location.
  • Evaluate student binders and grade portfolios to include calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
  • Facilitate tutorial sessions in math, reading, writing, science, social studies, study skills, and other aspects of college preparations.
  • Manage learning materials and assist in student materials for specific lessons.
  • Relate positively to students and develop mutually respectful relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and achievement.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process where available.
  • Assess student progress and communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID teacher regarding student progress and areas of success and/or concern.
  • Become familiar with the AVID Curriculum Libraries and textbooks and materials used by AVID students.
  • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ensure the academic and social/personal success of each AVID student.
  • Model goal setting and the effective organizational/personal concepts.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  • Act as a role model in behavior and appropriate attire at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
  • Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
  • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
  • Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
