Position Title: Middle School Literature and History Teacher

Location: Great Hearts Prairie View Upper School

Reports To: Headmaster

FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt

• Students read a selection of Great Books from the Western Tradition
• A strong and deliberate focus on primary sources
• Socratic approach and seminar style discussions in the classrooms

In Middle School Literature and Composition courses, youhave the opportunity toengage students in an exploration of grammatical structures, literary devices, and the art of  addition, you will guide students in discussing literature and poetry, whichprovidebeautiful examples of language thatconveysthe heart ofthe humanexperience.

At the middle school level, the History courses offered are as follows:

• World History & Cultures (6th grade)
• Texas History (7th grade)
• US History:
  Beginnings - 1877 (8th grade)

• Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
• Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
• Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
• Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
