Position Information
Safety Officer II or III (Job ) in the Fort Worth District. This role involves working closely with field and office employees and traveling across the 8 counties in the district. The position focuses on accident prevention, safety program implementation, and compliance with the Occupational Safety Division Manual.
Compensation and Work Details- Minimum Salary: $48,244.00

- Assist in overseeing the Fort Worth district safety program in accordance with the Occupational Safety Division Manual.
- Create a culture of accident prevention and safety awareness.
- Administer the new employee driver orientation program and vehicle safety program.
- Serve as or assist the Substance Control Officer.
- Coordinate and schedule employee safety awards and the annual Safety Awards Banquet/Equipment Roadeo.
- Develop localized policies, procedures, guidelines, and rule interpretations.
- Coordinate safety meetings, including planning, conducting, scheduling, and providing literature and audio‑visual material.
- Investigate employee accidents, prepare reports, maintain records, identify injury types and causes, recommend preventative actions, and conduct follow‑up investigations.
- Plan, schedule, and administer training on safety issues (defensive driving, CPR, first‑aid, fleet safety, hazardous materials) and maintain training records.
- Plan, schedule, and monitor programs that promote employee safety and accident prevention.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Inspect equipment and work areas.
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Relevant work experience may substitute for a degree on a year‑per‑year basis.
Experience- Safety Officer II: 1 year in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related areas (full‑time or prorated part‑time).
- Safety Officer III: 2 years in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related areas (full‑time or prorated part‑time).
Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
Competencies- Knowledge of applicable safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
- Construction, maintenance and operation of transportation facilities.
- Developing, interpreting, and implementing policies, procedures, and technical information.
- Public relations and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Data collection, sorting, and compilation; ability to instruct others.
- Computer proficiency with applicable programs and systems.
- Collaboration and cooperation with others to accomplish organizational goals.
- Researching, evaluating, and interpreting complex information, including policies and state/federal laws and regulations specific to the functional area.
- Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time; occasionally carry files/small tools.
- Light work: lift up to 20 lbs at a time; frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
- Standing for prolonged periods.
- Repetitive motion: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- This job is physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; subject to random drug testing.
- Note:
The Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, (e) – does not authorize medical marijuana under state law as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for this position.
