Graduate Land Planner

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Land Planner to join our team. The position will work in a collaborative and integrated team of professionals that include landscape architects, civil engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental scientists, and transportation engineers. The primary responsibilities include plan production and technical document creation for PLA service deliverables related to land planning. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

• Work with senior certified planner to build skills to review and interpret regulatory codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
• Review and analyze land features relating to opportunities, constraints, and layout options for development.
• Prepare due diligence analysis, land development concepts, master development plans, and graphic illustrations using both digital and hand drawn formats.
• Develop and refine design solutions.
• Use land planning theory and concepts in preparing land development concepts and master development plans.
• Participate in project meetings with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.
• Assist in editing technical plans, details, and specifications.
• Visit construction sites to gather information, review design intent, and support senior project team members during construction phase.
• Use entitlement procedures and required regulatory approvals.

• Four-year degree in Planning or related field.
• 0-3 years of professional experience (Master’s Degree may substitute for 2 years of experience).
• Computer skills including AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS Max, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Word, MS Excel, and GIS.
• Strong freehand illustration and computer rendering skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
• Handle multiple priorities well.
• Portfolio or work samples required if considered for interview.

• Working toward or desire to gain certification for AICP.
• Working toward or gained sustainability credential (LEED and/or ENVISION).
