Overview
Engineering Assistant I or II - (2600369). TxDOT’s Fort Worth District is looking for an Engineering Assistant;
Level I or II. The Engineering Assistant position focuses on producing PS&E design for various construction projects. The role rotates into the field to help oversee the execution of the project design plans. This program supports licensing and career development through the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP).

SalaryEngineering Assistant I: (B20) 4,263.16 – 6,779.25 per month; Engineering Assistant II: (B21) 4,523.16 – 7,253.83 per month

Role and ResponsibilitiesPerforms engineering work with rotation, training, and continuing education in design, construction, construction inspection, maintenance, surveying, environmental and transportation operations. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer. Work requires contact with local governmental representatives, engineering contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. All Engineering Assistants participate in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP) and sign a Program Agreement outlining responsibilities and service time commitment.
EssentialDuties
Engineering Assistant I:
- Actively prepares for professional engineering licensing/registration through training and required documentation.
- Assist during emergencies and inclement weather.
- Assist with contract administration for construction and maintenance projects to ensure contractor compliance.
- Participate in Career Development through rotation, training, and continuing education.
- Perform construction inspection and material sampling/testing.
- Perform engineering-related calculations and drafting/design work.
- Perform research and problem solving of engineering-related problems.
- Prepare and check plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) and designs.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Engineering Assistant II:
- Perform advanced and specialized engineering design work.
- Note:
If you graduate in May 2026 with a Bachelor’s Degree, you may apply; you must provide proof of degree by start date if offered the position.
Acceptable substitutions for all levels: Master’s degree in engineering or Master of Engineering (ABET-accredited) may substitute for a bachelor’s degree. Doctoral degree in engineering may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
Experience and LicensesExperience:
Engineering Assistant I:
No work experience required. No supervisory experience required.
Engineering Assistant II: 1 year of engineering-related experience (full-time or prorated part-time).
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle. Additional certification required for Engineering Assistant II.
