Early Career Project Controls Specialist
Reporting to client’s office in Amarillo, TX. Hybrid 2‑4 times per week. Employees may travel to Fort Worth, TX for periodic meetings.
Responsibilities- Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing project controls data from schedules, cost reports, work breakdown structures, change management logs, risk registers, forecasts, and other documentation to support planning, execution, and performance tracking.
- Perform basic project controls functions including schedule updates, cost monitoring, earned‑value analysis, and reporting to ensure project objectives are achieved according to established standards, procedures, and client requirements.
- Execute routine schedule and cost‑control tasks while providing entry‑level technical assistance on developing and maintaining project baselines, identifying variances, and supporting mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
- Verify project progress, update documentation, and provide analytical support on schedule performance, resource allocations, project risks, contract compliance, and reporting requirements consistent with industry best practices and organizational guidelines.
- Generate accurate documentation, spreadsheets, charts, dashboards, and reports to support weekly and monthly project controls reporting cycles.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional project teams—including project managers, engineers, construction personnel, and finance groups—to support execution and delivery of project work.
- Comply with safety, contractual, and project‑specific guidelines which include data accuracy, records retention, auditing requirements, and reporting standards.
- Complete all required training related to project controls systems, tools, and internal procedures.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a closely related discipline.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant post‑education experience in project controls, project management, or a related field.
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with project scheduling, cost tracking, and performance measurement concepts.
- Basic understanding of construction or engineering project life cycles, contracts, and delivery methods.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with project teams and conveying information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Self‑leadership and ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a dynamic environment under general supervision.
- Basic proficiency with project controls tools, spreadsheets, office automation, and reporting technologies.
- Familiarity with scheduling and project controls software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI, Excel).
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project requirements that may extend beyond a typical workweek.
- Prior internship or work experience in project controls, project management, or construction management.
- Active member of or participant in local professional organizations related to project management or project controls (AACE, PMI, CMAA, etc.).
- Preference for candidates local to the Amarillo, TX area.
