Your impact

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, requiring innovative approaches to enhance reliability and sustainability. In response, Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to navigate the complexities of decarbonization and provide a cleaner, more secure energy future. We are seeking skilled mechanical engineers who are eager to grow their expertise while collaborating closely with our clients and operations teams as we broaden our energy transition portfolio.

This role offers the chance to engage with clients to assess their energy needs, develop conceptual plans, and bring them to life through detailed design and execution. We provide comprehensive lifecycle services, from exploration and development to operation and repowering/retirement. You should possess a foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and prior consulting experience will be viewed favorably.

In this position, you will focus on conducting feasibility studies, alongside design and construction oversight for diverse energy projects. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills are essential. Ideal candidates will have a solid grasp of engineering fundamentals coupled with the creativity to devise innovative solutions.

Here’s

What You’ll Need:
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy engineering
  • Familiarity with codes and standards for energy and power projects (e.g. ASME, NFPA, ASHRAE)
  • Proven experience in performing industry-standard energy calculations and reviewing construction documents
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Experience leading mechanical design teams and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams on larger projects
Additional Skills That Are Highly Valued:
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (such as Revit, AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navis Works)
  • Experience with energy analysis software (e.g. Trane Trace 3D Plus)
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modeling software (e.g. Pipe-Flo, AFT Fathom/Arrow)
  • Experience in process system modeling software (e.g. Thermoflow, Aspen/Hysys)
  • Proficiency in pipe stress modeling software (e.g. CAESAR II, Auto Pipe)
  • Familiarity with thermal utility plants and distribution systems (steam, hot water, chilled water)
  • Experience in utility master planning or decarbonization/climate response planning
  • Knowledge of cogeneration or combined heat and power systems
  • Experience with geothermal power systems
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems
