Overview
A licensed engineer in a managerial position responsible for project success. Leads multiple project teams through all phases of development, coordinating and administering projects, while fostering leadership, communication and creative problem‑solving to maintain effective client relationships and align with the firm’s values in client service, innovation and communication.
Responsibilities- Manage multiple structural project team efforts, facilitating effective execution of design, delivery of implementation documents and construction administration.
- Serve as client contact point, strengthening client relationships by understanding project needs and progress, and exercising communication skills on critical issues.
- Oversee implementation documents, technical discussions and coordination with other disciplines.
- Work with teams to establish design solutions that can be technically implemented within project goals, budgets, constraints and local ordinances and codes.
- Collaborate on all phases of the design process from kickoff to construction administration, including attending on‑site visits and field reviews.
- Perform detailed code analysis, structural analysis and calculations, ensuring quality of implementation documents.
- Delegate tasks to the project team and hold members accountable for completion.
- Review engineering work and documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Manage and supervise project team interactions internally and with other project participants.
- Provide guidance and motivation for performance and participate in self‑evaluation to distill and distribute lessons learned.
- Apply products and materials according to HKS standards, help define best practice and quality expectations.
- Integrate HKS expertise and innovation, seeking opportunities to incorporate best practices, sustainable design solutions, subject matter expertise and resources strategically for the client, user and community.
- Travel will be required.
- Education and Experience: Accredited professional degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering or related field; typically 9+ years of experience in all phases of engineering and construction.

Certifications:
Professional engineering or structural engineering licensure required (structural engineering licensure preferred); sustainable design accreditation preferred. - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced – expert‑level experience, knowledge or skills in integrated design, engineering building systems, QA/QC process, building codes, material design standards and constructability.
- Intermediate – experience, knowledge of project management tools (Vision, Portfolio, etc.), MS Office Suite (Project, Teams, Excel), sustainability and integrated design guidelines; ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, collaborate, communicate, problem‑solve and lead a team.
- Basic – familiarity with primary concepts, Revit and BIM usage for delivery of implementation documents.
Base Salary Range: $110k - $155k annually – Chicago and Washington DC locations only.
