Description
The System Safety Engineer will perform hazard identification, evaluation, and control analyses for fighter aircraft platforms, applying quantitative and qualitative techniques commonly used in the design of aircraft weapon systems and sustainment activities.
Responsibilities- Perform Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Safety Analysis (SSA), Software Hazard Analysis (SWHA), and other safety analysis methodologies.
- Conduct risk assessments and trade studies to evaluate and optimize design choices and recommend appropriate controls to mitigate safety hazards.
- Interface and coordinate system safety activities with design teams, suppliers, internal management, and external customers.
- Establish system safety requirements in accordance with applicable standards and evaluate functional impacts of non‑compliance in coordination with design subject‑matter experts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering degree.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience with cross‑functional communication.
- Military or civilian flight experience.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, MIL‑HDBK‑516, ARP‑4761, and/or ARP‑4754.
- Knowledge of FAA and military regulations and processes.
- Previous experience writing technical reports on complex subject matters.
- Experience with military or government programs.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods.
- Model‑based system engineering (MBSE) training or experience.
- Experience leading a project or team.
- Experience working with international customers and suppliers.
- Experience with communicating cross‑functionally.
- Full life‑cycle experience with system safety analyses, standards, and tools.
- Experience with software safety requirements across the full development lifecycle from hazard identification through development to system/software qualification testing.
This position requires a government security clearance. Candidates must be US citizens. Clearance level:
Secret.
