Department Manager – Mechanical
The role is located at one of our 45 U.S. offices and involves partnership with clients across the food, beverage, life sciences, and industrial sectors. You will lead mechanical engineering efforts for GMP‑regulated manufacturing facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, steam, and other utility systems.
What You’ll Do- Serve as Mechanical Engineer of Record, sealing construction documents and ensuring compliance with codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical and utility systems for regulated manufacturing environments.
- Execute mechanical engineering across the full project lifecycle—from feasibility and detailed design through construction documentation and field support.
- Oversee engineering calculations, system analysis, and BIM coordination using Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical analysis tools.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors, process partners, and controls teams to support equipment selection, utility coordination, and refrigeration systems.
- Collaborate on validation‑ready design practices, ensuring commissioning, qualification, and operational readiness.
- Design and oversee mechanical systems for controlled environments, including temperature, humidity, pressure, filtration, and contamination control aligned with GMP and quality expectations.
- Provide construction‑phase engineering support through site visits, field observations, and collaboration with contractors via RFIs, submittals, and issue resolution.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state, with willingness to obtain licensure in additional states.
- 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology facilities.
- Proven experience supporting process and hygienic environments, including industrial refrigeration and contamination‑sensitive facility design.
- Strong technical proficiency in mechanical systems design and engineering analysis, with ability to evaluate performance, reliability, and constructability.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD in a coordinated BIM environment, along with HVAC and mechanical analysis tools.
- Experience developing technical specifications, design narratives, and construction documentation for procurement and construction.
- Hands‑on experience providing construction‑phase engineering support, including site visits and contractor collaboration.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines—process, controls, architecture, structure, and electrical—to deliver integrated systems aligned with quality and safety goals.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (required); master’s degree preferred.
- Willingness to travel for client meetings, training, and industry events.
