Overview
The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) team is looking for a Machine Learning Engineering Manager who will provide functional and technical leadership to a team of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning engineers. The ideal candidate will possess passion for conceptualizing, building, testing and maturing AI systems. The selected candidate will lead a range of projects including short‑term sprints and long‑term engagements and will be responsible for the technical execution of AI system development and integration activities for a number of simultaneous programs for the Cognitive Weapons & Effectors team.
This candidate will engage in system development throughout the entire project life cycle, including requirements generation, system and software design, implementation, integration and flight test while ensuring the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools are applied. The role also requires advancing software engineering practices, leveraging AI to create state‑of‑the‑art technologies, and focusing on technology areas that enhance the effectiveness and reliability of kinetic and non‑kinetic effectors.
- Lead the development team, providing functional and technical leadership.
- Manage short‑term sprints and long‑term engagement projects, overseeing requirements, design, implementation, integration, and flight test.
- Ensure compliance with standards, processes, and tools across assigned programs.
- Advance software engineering craft, implementing new techniques and leveraging AI.
- Provide career development, performance and salary actions, training plans, and support recruiting, hiring, and staffing activities.
- Develop product‑line road maps, pursue new business opportunities, and assist in new business captures.
- Work at any major Lockheed Martin facility or remotely, as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- Proven leadership experience in engineering assignments and successful results in leading and executing on software‑intensive programs.
- General knowledge of Agile principles.
- Proven experience leading virtual teams.
- Strong understanding of the engineering development process.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience deploying AI capabilities to SAPs.
- TS Security Clearance.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Experience applying reinforcement learning.
- Experience applying neurosymbolic AI.
- Experience applying level‑3 fusion.
- Experience applying modern computer vision or RF signal processing.
- Experience with machine‑learning frameworks (PyTorch, Tensor Flow, MXNet, Caffe, etc.).
- Experience with Python and scientific‑computing libraries (Num Py, OpenCV, Scikit‑learn, Pandas, etc.).
- Basic understanding of web application development (React, Angular, Type Script, etc.).
- Background in high‑performance computing (CUDA).
- Experience with Dev Ops tools:
Docker, Git, CI, CD. - Experience with network/messaging (UDP, ZeroMQ, RESTful API, etc.).
- Experience developing applications on Linux.
- Experience with C++.
- Experience interfacing with databases (SQL, Mongo
DB, etc.). - Active security clearance.
Top Secret. Must hold a government security clearance. US citizenship required.
Salary & IncentivesAnnual base salary range: $156,400 – $275,655 (excluding major metropolitan areas) or $179,800 – $311,650 for major metropolitan areas, depending on work location. Position is incentive‑plan eligible.
