Job Description & How to Apply Below
Would you like to lead firmware for high‑power systems operating at a global scale?
Are you an engineer who has built real systems and not just software? Have you experienced seeing your systems operate in the field over years, not months? If so, we are looking for you!
We are seeking asenior‑level firmware and systems engineer to lead development of high‑power electronic systems (up to ~3,000V) used in:
- Locomotives and rail transportation platforms
- Mining and off‑highway vehicles
- Auxiliary power and onboard energy systems
This is a Chief Engineer-level role, which is a hands‑on technical leader working at the intersection offirmware, hardware, and power electronics systems.
We’re specifically looking for engineers who have:- Built firmware tightly integrated with hardware or power electronics systems
- Worked on multi‑board, multi‑controller embedded systems
- Owned designs from concept through production and field deployment
- Improved second or third‑generation products based on real‑world performance
- Experience in high‑reliability environments (industrial, energy, automotive, aerospace, etc.)
You will help define and lead firmware across systems such as:
- High‑voltage auxiliary power converters (up to ~3,000V)
- Electric drive propulsion systems and motor control
- Alternators, inverters, and power distribution systems
- Battery‑electric locomotive platforms and energy storage systems
- Embedded control and diagnostics for large‑scale rail equipment
This is firmware that directly controls power, motion, and safety‑critical systems.
What You’ll Do- Lead firmware architecture for complex embedded systems
- Collaborate with hardware teams on power electronics and control systems
- Drive design decisions across firmware, hardware, and system architecture
- Own the full product lifecycle:
- Evaluate and improve designs based on field performance and reliability data
- Mentor engineers and act as a technical authority across teams
- Support customer discussions, system reviews, and product development strategy
- Have 20+ years of embedded systems experience
- Have worked on electromechanical or power‑driven systems
- Are comfortable with:
- Fault handling, safety, and system reliability
- Have seen your designs operate in the real world over extended periods
- Think in systems, not just code
- Have limited experience working with physical hardware systems
- Have not supported products beyond the initial release
- Prefer short product cycles instead of long‑lifecycle engineering
- Embedded C/C++ (RTOS or bare‑metal)
- Communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, serial)
- High‑reliability system design and validation
- Strong technical influence across engineering teams
- Cross‑functional leadership with hardware, systems, and software groups
- Oil & gas/energy systems (downhole tools, field equipment)
- Automotive / EV powertrain and control systems
- Industrial automation or heavy equipment
- Power electronics and energy conversion systems
- This role is open for either the Fort Worth, TX, or Erie, PA, plant locations
- Occasional travel to engineering labs and testing facilities
- Exposure to full‑scale systems and real operational environments
- Work on real‑world systems that move industries, not abstract software
- Design systems operating for 20+ year life cycles
- Influence next‑generation transportation and energy platforms
- Be a key technical voice in a highly specialized engineering organization
