Position: Civil Engineer (Hydraulics).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the study, design, construction, operation and maintenance of flood risk reduction, navigation, and aquatic ecosystem restoration systems.
  • Monitor civil engineering projects and resources.
  • Identify civil engineering problems and recommend corrective action.
  • Review technical civil engineering project design documents and submittals.
Conditions of Employment

Basic Requirement for Civil Engineer
  • Degree:
    Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics;

    (b) strength of materials (stress‑strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. (Degree must be completed by June 2026.)
Combination of

Education and Experience
  • College‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnishes a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and a good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques.
  • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) by any state, DC, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or other qualifying written test.
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences including specified courses.
  • Related curriculum:
    Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Specialized Experience
  • One year of specialized experience (or graduate‑level education completed by June 2026) including assisting in the operation/maintenance of flood risk reduction, navigation, and aquatic ecosystem restoration systems; or using computer software to perform Hydrology and Hydraulics civil engineering calculations; or collecting/analyzing civil engineering data such as high water marks, cross‑sectional surveys, sediment samples, or flow measurements.
Superior Academic Achievement
  • Successful completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) by June 2026.
  • Criteria include class standing in the upper third of graduating class, GPA of at least 3.0, or membership in an approved national honor society.
5‑Year Engineering Program
  • Successful completion of a 5‑year, at least 160 semester hour program leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
Foreign Education
  • Foreign education credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to a U.S. accredited program; or full credit granted by a U.S. accredited college or university.
