Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer will support mechanical engineering efforts for current and future site development, including the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of High Performance Computing (HPC) data centers. With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers, taking pride in sustainable solutions for the evolving applications of high‑performance compute.
Job Requirements- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience in data centers or mission critical facility design, construction, or operations.
- Sound knowledge of large‑scale water and air‑cooled chilled water cooling plant design, including flow diagrams, P&IDs, and sequence of operations.
- Experience with energy and HVAC load calculation software tools.
- Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Solid Works, and/or other relevant design tools.
- Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools.
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and solutions.
- High level of knowledge of relevant ASHRAE handbooks/standards, ASPE design handbooks, IPC codes, IEC codes, and other applicable codes for data centers and mission critical facilities.
- Good leadership skills and interpersonal relations to lead by influencing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage diverse audiences, from junior staff to senior leadership.
- Self‑driven with attention to detail and ability to execute high‑quality work with limited direction.
- Ability to handle uncertainty and limited resources or information comfortably.
- Serve as the mechanical SME for cooling systems across design, construction, commissioning, and operations for HPC data centers (HVAC, plumbing, piping, and controls).
- Review and validate specifications, calculations, drawings, and other technical deliverables from consultants, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, and commissioning agents.
- Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Perform technical analyses (calculations, simulations, CFD, and thermal analysis) to optimize liquid and air cooling and airflow.
- Support project planning by contributing to schedules, budgets, and resourcing plans, and coordinate with site teams, corporate staff, and external engineering partners.
- Lead or support construction, installation, and commissioning activities for mechanical systems.
- Monitor mechanical system performance to maintain operating limits and reliability, assess current and future capacity constraints, and implement energy‑efficient improvements.
- Develop technical documentation (plans, checklists, specifications, reports, procedures, and standards) to support work from design through construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Maintain records for cooling‑system technical documentation and site integration, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and availability.
- Coach and provide feedback to other staff on cooling, mechanical, and piping matters.
- Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
