Position: Entry Level Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer

Overview

At Jacobs, we challenge today’s problems by reinventing tomorrow, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world. We are looking for an Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&CS) Design Engineer, part of the West Central I&C Group, to work on municipal water treatment projects worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design control panel layouts, BOMs, nameplate schedules, AC and/or DC wireway layouts.
  • Develop I/O wiring diagrams, AC and/or DC power distribution diagrams, I/O lists.
  • Create instrumentation specifications and select instruments using an instrument index and/or data sheets.
  • Design copper and fiber optic networks for control system or SCADA.
  • Develop bill of materials and estimates for design projects.
  • Prepare drawings detailing the system using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Develop conceptual design reports and concept of operation documents.
  • Prepare engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects.
  • Engage with instrumentation vendors and manufacturers to understand product capabilities.
  • Program PLC and SCADA systems and perform facility startups and commissioning activities.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers and SCADA systems.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit software.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) with plans to take the Control Systems PE exam once requirements are met.
  • Experience with control panels or control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with water/wastewater treatment projects.
  • Experience in design‑build project environments.

Compensation

Base salary range: $60,000 – $90,000. Pay is determined by location and other factors including job‑related skills, experience, and education.
