Position Overview

MP Materials is seeking a Specialist, Electrical Operations to support OPEX (Operating Expense) and Continuous Improvement projects across our new, state‑of‑the‑art metal, alloy, and magnet production facilities. This role is a hands‑on technical position focused on driving energy efficiency, reducing operating costs, and supporting reliable, optimized facility operations. It is ideal for candidates passionate about solving complex problems, supporting capital integration, and leading impactful, cost‑saving initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Participate and execute OPEX‑focused electrical projects aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing utility spend, and enhancing operational reliability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical systems, controls, and power distribution infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, EHS, and finance teams to prioritize and implement cost‑effective electrical system upgrades and process improvements.
  • Assist engineers in gathering field data and validating system designs through on‑site evaluations and performance testing.
  • Interpret electrical drawings and schematics to ensure alignment between design intent, as‑built conditions, and operational performance.
  • Install, support, or modify electrical components, circuits, and equipment for project‑based upgrades and system optimizations (e.g., lighting, motors, drives, and control systems).
  • Conduct energy audits and cost‑benefit analyses to identify and justify electrical improvement projects.
  • Support commissioning, system validation, and post‑installation performance reviews of electrical improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and uphold safety‑first practices, including compliance with Arc Flash, NFPA 70E, NEC, and site‑specific EHS requirements.
  • Provide technical input for developing electrical design standards and contribute to updating sitewide documentation.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis investigations for electrical inefficiencies or recurring system issues and propose corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Completion of an approved Certified Electrical Program or equivalent technical training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of electrical experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process‑driven environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with electrical system upgrades, retrofits, or energy optimization projects.
  • Working knowledge of UPS systems, generators, switch gear, PDUs, VFDs, and ATS/STS systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, IEEE, and relevant electrical codes and standards.
  • Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills with the ability to lead small technical projects.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and basic electrical design tools.
  • Safety‑conscious, self‑motivated, and able to work both independently and within cross‑functional teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial or advanced manufacturing environments (e.g., metals, semiconductors, chemicals).
