Position Overview
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is seeking a full‑time, early‑career Aeronautical Engineer for Aerodynamics. The role supports the aerodynamics and performance of Lockheed Martin’s advanced fighter aircraft, including the F-16, F-22, and F-35. The selected candidate will work with experienced engineers to develop, process, and analyze aerodynamic data derived from conceptual design tools, wind tunnel testing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and flight testing.
Responsibilities- Perform aerodynamic analyses within the Integrated Fighter Group (IFG), supporting aircraft configuration changes and external weapons carriage.
- Support sustainment and modernization of the F-16 and F-22 fleets.
- Compute aircraft performance characteristics such as range, turn rates, takeoff distances, and overall mission effectiveness.
- Present results at program design reviews and incorporate findings into pilot checklists, Aircraft Performance Manuals, and Stores Limitations Manuals.
- Coordinate closely with Aircraft Chief Engineers and other technical leaders to execute engineering activities.
- Participate in off‑site wind tunnel testing, CFD‑based aerodynamic analyses, and flight test activities.
- Engage with U.S. Air Force personnel and industry partners through technical symposiums and planning meetings focused on sustainment initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering.
- U.S. Citizen required for government security clearance.
- Solid academic coursework oriented toward the aircraft industry.
- Skilled in advanced computer languages, such as Fortran, C++, Python, MATLAB, VBA, and/or scripting.
- Highly motivated individual with continuous learning ability and a proactive approach to achieving team goals.
- Patience and diligence to meet a culture focused on highly accurate data requirements.
- Experience generating grid models and running CFD codes.
- Experience with CAD software.
- Experience in wind tunnel testing.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Project).
- Experience with MS Access databases, SQL, and VBA code.
This position requires a government security clearance. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens. Clearance level:
Secret.
The position is located at a Lockheed Martin facility that requires special access and will be performed onsite full‑time. The work schedule is 4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week. Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules to provide additional flexibility.
