Minimum Salary$76,530.00 – $ per year.
Travel10% of the time.

- Perform advanced and complex transportation engineering work in areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, traffic operations, and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Develop engineering designs (layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, contracts).
- Conduct planning work including plan review, calculations, and transportation planning studies.
- Collect, evaluate and analyze data; conduct studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and plan development.
- Review and support Standard Operating Procedures for project scheduling, resource management, budgeting, change management and quality performance measurement.
- Apply project management principles throughout the project lifecycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing.
- Assist with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinate on design schematics, capacity and level of service studies, and review traffic control/management and ITS plans and projects.
- Coordinate preliminary design and revisions in PS&E with districts, divisions, Administration, FHWA, contractors, fabricators, Corps of Engineers and local entities.
- Coordinate with local officials on critical findings involving non-state structures to ensure closure or repair.
- Review and process Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submissions and special specifications.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science; higher degree acceptable ("TX PELS").
- 6 years (preferably
7) of relevant engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience; graduate level education may substitute on a year‑per‑year basis. - Valid driver’s license – required to operate a state vehicle.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (or license obtained within 6 months).
- For underwater bridge inspections:
Open Water Diver certification. - For bridge inspections: NICET Level III or IV in Bridge Safety Inspection within 1 year of hire.
- Work in outdoor environments with no weather protection; exposure to extreme cold and heat.
- Light lifting up to 20 lbs, carrying up to 10 lbs.
- Standing, walking, crouching, and prolonged periods of activity.
- Effective communication; hearing and visual acuity required.
- Required to work weekends, holidays, and non‑standard hours.
- Required to wear PPE and comply with safety requirements.
- Pre‑employment physical and random drug testing (expires if positive and not medical marijuana).
