Description

You will be a System Safety Engineer for the Fighter System Safety Team responsible for performing hazard identification, evaluation, and control analyses using quantitative and qualitative techniques common to aircraft weapon systems and sustainment activities.

What You Will Be Doing

As the System Safety Engineer you will be responsible for performing analyses for hazard identification, evaluation, control, and coordination in support of system safety activities for internal and external stakeholders of fighter aircraft platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Safety Analysis (SSA), Software Hazard Analysis (SWHA), and other safety analysis methodologies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and trade studies to evaluate and optimize design choices and recommend appropriate controls to mitigate safety hazards.
  • Interface and coordinate system safety activities with design teams, suppliers, internal management, and external customers.
  • Establish system safety requirements in accordance with applicable standards and evaluate functional impacts of non‑compliance in coordination with design subject‑matter experts.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
Desired Skills
  • Military or civilian flight experience.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-516, ARP-4761, and/or ARP-4754.
  • Knowledge of FAA and military regulations and processes.
  • Previous experience writing technical reports on complex subject matters.
  • Experience with military or government programs.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods.
  • Model-based system engineering (MBSE) training or experience.
  • Experience leading a project or team.
  • Experience working with international customers and suppliers.
  • Experience communicating cross‑functionally.
  • Full life‑cycle experience with system safety analyses, standards, and tools.
  • Experience developing Fault Tree documentation for complex systems.
Security Clearance

This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. citizen. Clearance Level: Secret.

Work Location & Schedule
  • Onsite full‑time at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
  • Schedule:

    4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week.
