Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer to join our growing Electrical Engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of a greenfield project where you’ll design, develop, and optimize complex electrical systems that support a wide range of chemical, mechanical, and thermal processes. You’ll work cross-functionally with controls, operations, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable infrastructure.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in power distribution, system design, and industrial electrical standards, with the ability to take projects from concept through construction, commissioning, and operation.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and support of low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems for new facility construction, process expansions, and equipment upgrades—managing all phases from concept through commissioning to full operation.
- Prepare comprehensive electrical 2D design documentation, including Single-line diagrams and schematics, Load and power distribution layouts, Grounding and lightning protection systems, Cable and conduit routing plans, Panel schedules, PLC/control panel layouts, Network diagrams and P&IDs. All using tools such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Review and approve vendor and contractor submittals, ensuring alignment with project specifications, safety standards, and applicable electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE).
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (process, mechanical, controls, and civil) to ensure electrical systems are integrated effectively and designed to meet all project, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Support other engineers by developing design documentation, electrical calculations, technical reports, and specifications as required.
- Assist in system-level analysis, including load calculations, short-circuit studies, arc flash assessments, and protective device coordination using tools like SKM Power Tools.
- Contribute to the creation and enforcement of internal electrical design standards, templates, and documentation protocols.
- Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup, including resolving RFIs, reviewing redlines, and ensuring as-built accuracy.
- Develop and maintain maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for electrical infrastructure to support safe and efficient long-term operations.
- Participate in interpreting and applying industry codes, standards, and best practices, such as NEC, IEEE, IEC, OSHA, and NRTL guidelines.
- Ensure all electrical projects meet MP Materials’ expectations for safety, reliability, quality, and sustainability.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in electrical design, preferably in an industrial, chemical, or…
