Process Development & Engineering Manager

Relate Search has partnered with a food manufacturing organization in its search for a Process Development & Engineering Manager to lead the identification, development, verification, and implementation of new process technologies while improving existing manufacturing processes. This role will work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, R&D, senior leadership, and customers to advance processing capabilities and support successful project execution. The position will also help identify strategic growth opportunities in processing technology and drive innovation across food product categories including shortenings, oils, margarines, mayonnaise, dressings, and sauces.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the identification, development, optimization, and implementation of production processes for new and existing food product technologies, including planned research and testing at the bench, pilot plant, and manufacturing levels.
  • Partner with Quality, Plant Operations, Engineering, and R&D to expand processing capabilities, manage test-run reviews, analyze results, and support the finalization and handoff of formulas and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and evaluate new processing technologies and strategic growth opportunities, managing major project activities that support business goals across multiple channels.
  • Drive project execution through effective tracking, documentation, reporting, budget management, and cross-functional coordination while ensuring responsiveness and project timelines.
  • Stay current on relevant engineering and scientific developments, support technical training, and contribute to the development of project management and managerial capabilities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-based field, or equivalent experience;
    Chemical Engineering is highly preferred and a master's degree is preferred.
  • 7+ years of combined experience in process engineering, commercialization, product development, pilot plant operations, project management, or project engineering management.
  • Experience in food manufacturing is a strong advantage, with experience partnering with R&D and pilot plant or plant production experience also valued.
  • Knowledge of evaluating new technologies and business opportunities, conducting projects or experiments, and working within applicable FDA, USDA, and industry standards.
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, analytical, supervisory, verbal, and written communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and project timelines; ability to travel up to 20%.

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements:

The role requires sufficient physical strength and dexterity to perform required tasks, which may include intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds or more with assistance may be required. Typical shifts are 8–12 hours per day, with additional unscheduled time after hours or on weekends potentially required. Personal protective equipment may be required, and certain work may involve adverse temperatures, vibration, operational chemicals, fumes, food allergens, confined or dark spaces, and work at heights exceeding 18 feet.
