Actuarial
Perform diverse and complex actuarial tasks related to policy liability calculations and analyses required to ensure the solvency of affiliated companies. Solve problems across a wide range of actuarial applications. Propose, develop, and implement innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities Actuarial Calculations and Analyses- Perform monthly and annual corporate tasks related to the calculation of technical provisions, solvency ratios, and other information required for financial statements and regulatory filings, in accordance with applicable regulatory and actuarial/accounting standards in the U.S., France and Canada.
- Contribute to the development of the annual budget and continuously analyze variances between actual results and budget.
- Analyze company and industry experience studies and recommend appropriate adjustments to assumptions used in the calculation of technical provisions and other contractual liabilities.
- Review calculations and analyses performed by Analysts, and act as a resource person (coaching and team development)
- Independently respond to client requests.
- Prepare required documentation for auditors, retrocessionaires, rating agencies, and various regulatory authorities.
- Stay up to date on developments in regulation and accounting, actuarial, and tax standards by participating in industry meetings and sharing information with the team.
- Actively participate in evaluating the impact of these developments on the companies' balance sheets and solvency, as well as on required organizational changes (processes, data, systems, models).
- Perform thorough reviews of models and calculation methods to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and accuracy; propose new processes when appropriate.
- University degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics
- FSA designation with 7+ years of confirmed experience, or career ASA with a minimum of 10 years of confirmed experience in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of the insurance and/or reinsurance market
- Knowledge of US actuarial standards of practice
- Knowledge of actuarial and accounting standards applicable in France and the Canada (an asset)
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Sharp analytical mind and attention to detail
- High degree of autonomy
- Team spirit
- Strong communication skills
- Leadership in area of expertise and innovative mindset
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent programming and data handling skills (Excel, Access)
- Knowledge of AXIS (an asset)
