The Accounting Manager will play a critical leadership role in strengthening the accounting function during and after the department restructure. This individual will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, manage two accountants (A/P & Payroll; A/R & Gift Processing), ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and drive process improvement through automation and AI integration. This role will have significant responsibility for optimizing systems and workflows involving Raiser's Edge, Emburse, , Accu Fund, and ADP, ensuring that data flows seamlessly between platforms and financial reporting remains accurate and compliant.

Job Responsibilities Leadership & Oversight
  • Supervise and develop a team of two accountants responsible for A/P, A/R, Payroll, and gift processing.
  • Support the Controller in implementing the departmental restructure and ensuring a smooth transition to improved systems and workflows.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the finance team and program departments to ensure financial alignment and understanding of accounting processes.
Accounting Operations
  • Manage the month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Oversee daily accounting functions including A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing.
  • Ensure proper recording of contributions, grants, and gifts in collaboration with the Development and Advancement teams.
  • Prepare and review general ledger entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Systems & Technology Integration
  • Oversee financial data integrity between Raiser's Edge, Imburse, , Accu Fund, and ADP.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes through automation and AI‑enabled solutions for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Partner with IT and system vendors to maintain and optimize financial systems.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Assist in preparing audit documentation and liaise with external auditors during the annual audit.
  • Support preparation of financial reports for management, the Board of Directors, and funders.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, donor restrictions, and government grant requirements.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead process documentation and standardization initiatives within the accounting team.
  • Introduce and manage AI‑driven tools for data entry, reconciliation, and financial analysis.
  • Contribute to creating a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration in the finance department.
Job Requirements Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required, CPA or equivalent credential preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience required, ideally in a midsized or complex organization ($10M+ budget).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Accu Fund or similar nonprofit accounting software.
  • Experience working with Raiser's Edge (Blackbaud), Emburse, , and ADP.
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with data analytics or AI‑driven financial tools preferred.
