  • Review organizational policies ensuring the proper controls are in place and adhere to GAAP accounting rules and regulations. Interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to company-wide policies.
  • Explore new methods and strategies to promote and enhance achieving organization’s mission safely, efficiently, and effectively. Lead the development and implementation of new solutions, programs, and initiatives.
  • Participate in the organization’s planning process, interpreting business strategies, establishing strategic plans and objectives for multiple areas and functions. Decisions may affect the entire organization.
  • Work on problems in variable situations that typically require complex analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of intangible factors; direct the resolution of complex problems that have impact beyond own area; participate in development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial and management reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Post monthly journal entries, reconcile cash and investment accounts, and prepare appropriate documentation/supporting schedules.
  • Update accounting policies/procedures and develop standard operating procedures for the department, while maintaining an automation mindset to streamline accounting functions.
  • Oversee the payroll process and review and approve bi-weekly payroll as well as fund retirement and HSA contributions.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and payable process flows including the approvals, preparation, processing, coding and posting of all invoices, as well as proper reconciliation.
  • Maintain all subsidiary schedules and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, restricted net assets, etc.
  • Maintain/update the chart of accounts and perform necessary system updates.
  • Provide budget and reporting documentation for private grants using organization’s functional allocation of expenses and other sources.
  • Engage with departments to prepare budgets for Federal, State and local government contracts; prepare and submit invoices (including appropriate backup data).
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Assist the CFO in preparation of annual, multi-departmental operating budget as well as multi-year forecasts.
  • Lead accounting activities to ensure compliance with GAAP and integrity of GL balances with an effective internal control environment.
  • Work with CFO to prepare schedules and reconciliations for annual audit.
  • Help prepare the 990 and monthly reporting for employee retirement.
  • Provide guidance and contract negotiation on vendor selection including commercial insurance, health insurance, workers’ compensation, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
