The Indirect Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting all auto loans that originate at an indirect dealership and help drive smart decisions that fuel success.
The Indirect Underwriter will be in training in office for the first 6 months, then can work in a hybrid schedule. Hybrid work is scheduled for 3 days in office and 2 days remote on a weekly basis.
To be eligible for hybrid work, you must demonstrate the ability to work independently and meet productivity goals. You must have a reliable wired, high‑speed internet connection (20 Mbps+ download, 5 Mbps+ upload). You provide the internet; we provide everything else (computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset).
Key Responsibilities- The Indirect Underwriter will be directly responsible for responding to dealers in a timely manner on all loan applications and requesting the contacts are submitted to EECU for all approved loan requests. Will work directly with the dealer on any contract issues that fall outside of original approval. Position requires diplomacy and tact in working directly with dealers.
- The Indirect Underwriter will provide additional assistance in obtaining any outstanding chargeback, dealer reserve, and lien perfection on indirect accounts. Will call on dealers to assist in building strong dealer relationships and provide assistance on calculating chargebacks and dealer reserves to ensure compliance.
- The Indirect Underwriter is also responsible for maintaining a charge‑off portfolio of less than 1% and will provide feedback to management from the dealers to allow management the opportunity to adjust the indirect lending program.
Responsible for compliance with all Federal and State rules and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti‑Money Laundering statutes, the NCUA Privacy Regulations, Reg B, Reg Z, Service Member’s Civil Relief, and FCRA/FACTA. Required to attend initial and ongoing annual Bank Secrecy Act training.
Qualifications & Requirements- 2‑3 years underwriting experience preferred.
- Patience and strong interpersonal skills when dealing with dealers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Excel knowledge preferred; must be advanced computer proficient.
- Sales or customer service background required.
- Knowledge of credit union operations.
- Preferably an experienced underwriter with indirect lending background.
- Analytical skills and goal‑driven mindset.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or business‑related education preferred.
- Availability Monday‑Saturday with shifts starting between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., primarily 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; may be required to work every Saturday.
- EECU will evaluate applicants for credit history; only those with good credit will be considered.
